Spirituality

Those Crazy Vegans. Now they're trying to connect the consumption and use of animals to spirituality. Are these people religious fanatics or some "holier than thou" card-carriers? Or could they possibly have some sound logic between a lifestyle choice and connection to the greater good?

Removing ourselves from the circle of violence involved with consuming and using animals takes us out of the loop of quite a bit of harm, pain, and death. Committing to living our lives as cruelty-free as possible provides us with a constant reminder that we are working toward becoming the highest and best versions of ourselves. Anytime we do good deeds we are rewarded with a positive and beautiful sense of joy and worth, which ultimately uplifts our spirits and makes our lives that much more enriched and fulfilling.

The consumption of animals, as discussed on this site's ethics page, inherently involves at least some type of confinement, discomfort, fear, pain, suffering, torture, human dominance, and death. In general, those are typically considered fairly negative things when it comes to our overall spirits and how we feel.

Whether a human captures and kills an animal with their bare hands or hires someone else to do their dirty work by voting with their dollar, the energy embedded in the animals' bodies is consumed by whoever eats, wears, or uses them. Whatever we put the animals through, we receive back as energy when we eat or use them. However, on the contrary, the more empathy and love we extend to other animals and other beings the more connected we are to the highest source of good.

Many people think that karma, the idea that "what goes around comes around," is a little bit out there; but a few crazy people believe that when we do good deeds, good things come back to us and if we do bad deeds bad things return to us. Although this may not be something that can be proven unequivocally, if people who do believe in karma support and consume the negative energy from the animal farming industry (again, see ethics) then it may not be too crazy for those people to give some thought to how they want to stack their karma bank.

Even if all of this sounds a little bit crazy, it seems like everyone should be able to agree with the "Golden Rule," that we should treat each other the way we would like to be treated. If we would like to be treated as property, commodities, objects, subjects, slaves, suppressed, dominated, meat, milk machines, egg factories, or anything similar, then supporting animal agriculture should have a positive effect on our spirit. If we would like to be treated with love, care, kindness, compassion, empathy, fairness, and with respect for our freedom, then leaving animals in peace by keeping them off of our plates and bodies and free from our dominance might not be such a crazy way to improve our spirits.

Whether you think this is all hocus pocus or can agree on at least some of the points, we all would like to be the highest and best versions of ourselves to our human and non-animal brothers and sisters as well as our precious Mother Earth. So as we go through life seeking improvement and self-betterment, it may not be too crazy to give some thought to the choices we make in life and how they might affect other beings. If we care then the time to start is now, as our spirits and others lives are at stake.
